Dangar (ダンガー, Dangā) is a monster that appeared in Return of Ultraman.
- Subtitle: Ancient Monster (古代怪獣, Kodai Kaijū)
History[]
Return of Ultraman[]
Sleeping on South Daito Island in the Okinawa Prefecture, Dangar was awakened due to the seismic shocks besieging the island. When MAT member Hideki Go arrived on the island in his MAT Arrow 1 to deliver the desperately needed serum to his ailing teammate, Takeshi Minami, Dangar immediately attacked the aircraft. Despite outmaneuvering the beast with his piloting skills, Go's aircraft eventually ran out of fuel and crashed onto the island. As Dangar approached the downed vessel, Go transformed into Ultraman Jack to fight the monster. Despite Jack's great strength, he and Dangar fought on fairly even grounds, with Dangar easily shrugging off Jack's kicks and attempts to grapple him, while Jack evaded his spiked punches. However, the fight quickly turned to Jack's favor as he tore off Dangar's dreadlocks, weakening the monster. Finally, Jack fired his Specium Ray at the beast, blasting his head and leaving him dead on the erupting island.[Monster Island S.O.S]

Miscellaneous[]
- Dangar can be seen in for a brief second in the final and 196th episode of Ultra Fight, "Monster Corpse Yard", as the episode was filmed in the Tsuburaya Productions storage room prior to the filming of Return of Ultraman.
- Dangar made an uncredited appearance in the illustrations of the history of the Land of Light as depicted in Ultraman Taro episode 25, "Burn! The 6 Ultra Brothers", where he is depicted fighting Father of Ultra as a member of Alien Empera's army 30,000 years ago.
Abilities[]
- Spiked Hands: Dangar's most unique characteristic are its spiked hands. Each hand has a single spike portruding from it, allowing for greater damage when punching.
- Weakness
Dangar's "dreadlocks" are his energy cells, and removing them greatly weakens him.
Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Dangar was portrayed by uncredited suit actor, Takanobu Toya.
Notes[]
- Dangar's suit would eventually be modified into that of the monster Shugaron. During his appearances in Redman an attraction suit previously used in stage shows and promotional materials was used.
- Dangar was prominently featured by the company Bullmark during their TV advertisement for their Kaiju Bowling Game toy.
- Strangely enough, Dangar's roll call shot at the very end of the opening credits for his episode is an anomaly in Return of Ultraman. Instead of featuring the lines "Ancient Monster DANGAR Appears" in front of the spiralling light background that usually accompanies this shot, an unused shot of Dangar himself being fired upon is shown as a background instead.
