Golza (ゴルザ, Goruza) is a monster that first appeared in Ultraman Tiga. Golza awakened alongside Melba to attack the pyramid holding Ultraman Tiga. Armed with incredible strength and a variety of super-sonic attacks, Golza and Melba proved to be a dangerous tag-team for the revived Ultra Warrior.[1]

Golza (Empowered) (ゴルザ(強化), Goruza Kyōka), or Fire Golza (ファイヤーゴルザ, Faiyā Goruza), is a powered up variation of Golza that has absorbed heat energy from lava.

History[]

Thirty million years ago[]

In ancient times, hoards of Golzas destroyed parts of the Ultra-Ancient civilization of R'lyeh and fought against the Ultra-Ancient Giants of Light.[Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey]

Ultraman Tiga[]

Golza[]

Golza first awoke from its long slumber following after a meteorite crashed into the Earth, and showed its face by emerging from the plains of Mongolia. Encountering the GUTS Wing 1 sent to recover the astral object containing the projector, Golza proved a fearsome sight as it proceeded to trudge across the plain towards a nearby village. GUTS officers Daigo Madoka and Rena Yanase, despite being unarmed, fired signal flares at the monster, affecting it enough to abandon its course of action and tunnel beneath the earth once more. The recovered meteorite was consequently revealed to be a projector time capsule, left by the leader of the Earth Planetary Guard: Yuzare, who described Golza as the "earth-shaking monster," and foretold that its resurgence would mark a period of catastrophic change for the planet. Yuzare then mentioned that the only way to save humanity in these changing times would to be awaken the "giants of Tiga" hidden in the Pyramid of Tiga somewhere on the planet. The pyramid was then discovered in the Tohoku region of Japan, and GUTS proceeded to investigate this previously unknown landmark following news of another monster, Melba, awakening on the Easter Islands.

As GUTS engaged in their research, Golza and Melba began to head towards Tohoku as well. Golza, travelling by land, surfaced in the northern part of Akita prefecture and proceeded to demolish its way through the area. Reaching the pyramid first, Golza blasted away the outer covering of the pyramid using its Ultrasonic Ray, exposing the statues of the giants just as Melba arrived by air. Working in combination, the two worked to systematically crush two of the statues, until all but one was left. In a vain attempt to save the statue, officer Daigo attempted to strike at the monsters using his signal flares. The attempt was fruitless and officer Daigo was shot down, unable to escape the falling aircraft due to a malfunction. Suddenly, the cockpit of the aircraft brightened and a beam of light escaped from it, entering the head gem of the final remaining statue. As Golza prepared to crush the statue beneath its foot, the giant came to life and began to combat the monsters.

Golza and Melba were initially successful in fending off this new threat. While the new challenger proved to be fairly agile and powerful, Golza and Melba were still superior to him in their specific ways, with Golza in particular able to easily overpower the opponent. This changed when the strange being suddenly changed his colors, removing his purple striping and exchanging them for a solid red. This new form proved impervious to the combined might of both Golza and Mebla's energy attacks, and easily overpowered Golza in physical strength, crushing Golza's back and left arm with a "Ultra Backbreaker" and throwing it around like a rag doll with "Ultra Lifter." Gravely injured by the giant's brutal assault, Golza fled the scene, while Melba distracted the giant and prevented him from giving chase.[2][Inheritance of Light]

Golza (Empowered)[]

After escaping the fate of its companion Melba at the hands of Ultraman Tiga, Golza decided to nurse its injuries and bade its time below the dormant volcano Kirimon Peak. Nestled 1,823 meters below the surface, Golza was able to feed off of the energy from the Earth's own magma, and slowly healed its injuries while gaining a new form known as "Golza (Empowered)" (ゴルザ(強化), Goruza (Kyōka)) as a byproduct. Golza's healing, however, drew in magma closer towards the surface of the peak, and resulted in the once dormant Kirimon Peak becoming active once again. The severity of the eruptions at Kirimon Peak piked the interest of GUTS, who decided to send in their Peepar tank to survey the area.

Arriving at the scene, the Peepar was lowered to ground level, with officers Daigo Madoka and Shinjoh Tetsuo as the pilots. The armored vehicle entered the mountain, proceeding with a rotation speed of 12,000, and entered a small cavern where the floor is seeping with magma. The two officers received permission to freeze the molten rock using the Peepar's Cold Beam. After completing the mission, officer Daigo sensed a presence within the mountain and was cleared to proceed deeper, upon which the two came across Golza' nestled into the deepest chambers of the cave. Officer Shinjoh, determined to not allow Golza to flee for a second time, fired a Monster Tracker into Golza's face, enraging the beast and causing it to move. The two officers began to backpedal in an attempt to leave the underground cavern, but Golza proved far faster and tunneled above them, effectively causing a collapse and trapping the two underground.

Meanwhile, GUTS and TPC amassed a land battalion of stationary cannons and prepared both the GUTS Wing 2 and a Drill Cannon in preparation for Golza's resurgence. Golza proved resistant to not only 2 shots fired from the Drill Cannon, but also GUTS Wing 2's Dexus Beam and an entire barrage from TPC's stationary cannons. The failed attack caused TPC to order the evacuation staff to move the refugees of Kirimon Peak further back into Area 4, which angered a young Gousuke Hibiki. The enraged TPC officer drove off in a TPC4WD in a successful attempt to divert Golza's attention, only to realize that his coworker, Washizu, had followed him in another TPC4WD in an attempt to bring Gousuke back. Lacking Gousuke's driving skills, Washizu's vehicle was struck by Golza's Enhanced Ultrasonic Ray and detonated, seemingly killing Washizu.

As Golza continued to rampage unopposed, the Kirimon Peak erupted once more, pressuring Daigo into transforming into Ultraman Tiga to save his comrade and the Peepar. Once above ground, Tiga engaged in battle with the new Powered-Up Golza. The brute strength that had once been Golza's slight edge over Tiga in Multi-Type had now transformed into a crushing advantage, as the giant was easily pummeled by Golza's assault. Projectile attacks proved ineffective as well, as Golza was able to simply absorb the Hand Slash Tiga threw out in retaliation. Ultraman Tiga transformed into Power-Type, and was able to make a dramatic comeback. As powerful as Golza became, Tiga still held an advantage in Power-Type, though Golza was clearly not as easily staggered as in the previous encounter. In an attempt to finish the fight, Tiga fired his Delacium Light Stream at Golza, only to be met with the same result as the Hand Slash when Golza absorbed the entirety of the attack. Tiga's Color Timer began to blink as time began to run short.

In desperation, Tiga gathered his energy into his fists, unleashing a series of Tiga Electric Punches upon Golza. The method proved effective, as the severity of the blows was able to stagger Golza and severely weaken it. Pouncing upon the chance, Tiga returned to Multi-Type and finished Golza off with his trademark Zepellion Ray, which struck Golza dead on and vanquished the beast. Immediately afterwards, Tiga picked up the still smoldering remains of his first enemy and tossed it into the mouth of Kirimon Peak right as the volcano erupted once again, burying Golza for good. Following Golza's demise, a depressed and guilt-ridden Gousuke met with the young girl named Haruna for the very first time.[Golza Strikes Back!]

Ultraman Dyna[]

Golza II

Sometime in the future, Kirimon Peak erupted once again, with the fire resulting from the eruption spreading as far as Makino. Ultra-GUTS determined that a giant organism was below Kirimon's surface, and predicted that the creature was Golza, judging by the monster's prior actions in the area. With the caution in mind, Ultra-GUTS assembled TPC's ground battalion and prepared for all-out warfare against the possibly returning threat.

Upon arriving at the mountain, however, team captain Hibiki Gousuke was contacted by Haruna, the girl who had comforted him during the previous Golza attack following the death of TPC officer Washizu, that 3 children in the orphanage she runs have wandered off from the main evacuation route. Determined to eliminate casualties, Gousuke called upon officer Shin Asuka to join him and Haruna in the rescue mission and departed on a Bopper. In the meantime, TPC assembled their legion of TPC Medium Tanks, Armored Vehicles, and began to prepare their new weapon: the Neo Drill Cannon, while Ultra-GUTS prepared their own GUTS DIG for the offense.

The rescue mission was a success, though due to the destruction of the mountain roads, the cohort of officers and children had to abandon the Bopper and traverse Kirimon Peak by foot. During the voyage, Gousuke received confirmation from field commander Yoshiyuki Kouda that the Neo Drill Cannon was ready, and the operation to evict Golza began.

Just as previously encountered, this new Golza proved completely impervious to all of Ultra-GUTS and TPC's ground forces, easily withstanding one shot from the Neo Drill Cannon before demolishing it. The Atomic Thunder from the GUTS DIG likewise had no effect on the monster. During the crossfire, squad officer Mukai attempted to rescue the children with his Connery 07, only to be shot down by Golza, who had noticed the children and were proceeding in their direction. Desperate, Gousuke instructed Shin to direct the children off of the mountain while he alone will serve as a distraction. Armed with a XX Bazooka, Gousuke successfully distracted Golza, but was blasted off of a cliff face and gravely injured his leg, leaving no method of escape. As the situation became more desperate, Shin transformed into Ultraman Dyna and engaged the beast in a fury - a state of mind that would become his undoing.

Against Ultraman Dyna, Golza II maintained a great physical advantage in addition to its superiority as a fighter, taking full advantage of Dyna's rage to incapacitate his attacks. Dyna attempted to respond with 2 shots of Beam Slicer, only for them to be completely absorbed. Further enraged, Dyna sought to quickly end the fight with a Solgent Ray, only for the beam to be completely absorbed as well and returned to his face alongside Golza's new heat ray. Completely outmatched, it is not long before Dyna was sent lying on his face in defeat. As he lay motionless, Dyna remembered the words of Gousuke, reminding him that anger would lead to mistakes, and controlling that anger is the key to victory. Reinvigorated, Ultraman Dyna regained his stance, and as Golza II charged him, executed a power right chop to Golza's left, emitting sparks and causing the seemingly invincible monster to stagger. Maintaining composure and stoicity, Dyna then fired a variation of the Solgent Ray directly into the wound, defeating Golza II and causing it to explode.

Following Golza II's defeat, it was hypothesized that Sphere may have revived the Golza cells left in Kirimon Peak after the death of the original, though this theory was not confirmed. It was also revealed that unlike Washizu, squad officer Mukai had explicitly survived the encounter.[Captain Long-Legs]

Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle[]

Golza[]

Golza was one of the many monsters that inhabited Planet Boris. When Kumano and Haruna were searching an abandoned excavation Site to find some necessary part to fix the Pendragon's engines, Golza appeared and attacked them both. Luckily, Hyuga and Oki arrived on the scene to distract Golza and allow Kumano and Haruna the chance to get back to their speeders. While distracting the monster however, Golza shot down Hyuga and Oki's speeder and was prepared to kill them both until Rei returned to face Golza himself, while riding on his newly acquired Litra. Rei then summoned Gomora from his Battle Nizer to do battle against Golza. At first, the battle seemed to be in favor of Golza, as the monster Telesdon had also arrived to attack the ZAP Spacy as well, and both monsters managed to work together in double-teaming Gomora. However with Litra distracting Golza, Gomora managed to focus its attention on Telesdon long enough to kill it with his Oscillatory Ray. Gomora then turned its attention back towards Golza and after beating it down too, Gomora stabbed Golza with its horn and charged the Monster's innards with its Oscillatory Ray from the inside, destroying Golza.[The Fifth Crewman]

Fire Golza[]

Fire Golza belonged to the Reiblood known as Kate. It was her first nonster used in battle as she used it to take out a group of Sadolars that had taken over and destroyed Belargo City. Despite the odds against her monster, Kate's Fire Golza was easily able to outclass the monsters' strength and it killed all the Sadolars in attendance while Kate herself took the form of a deceased biologist named "Azusa Maki." Kate then unleashed Fire Golza again against Rei and his Gomora to test him and bring out his Reiblood heritage as well. Unlike Rei and Gomora's first battle against Golza (as well as their previous battle against Kate's Banpira,) Kate's Fire Golza proved to be a much stronger opponent, beating down Gomora with its brute strength and bombarding it with its Molten Fireball Blasts. Fire Golza was even able to take a direct hit from Gomora's Super Oscillatory Ray without taking any damage at all.

Luckily the ZAP SPACY came to Rei's aid in order to distract Fire Golza. The distraction worked as Gomora managed to burrow underneath Fire Golza, taking the stronger monster by surprise. With the ZAP SPACY continuing to distract Fire Golza, Gomora took advantage again and stabbed Fire Golza with his horn, charging the monster's innards with his Super Oscillatory Ray from the inside. Suddenly while doing so, Fire Golza ripped Gomora free from his body and a stare-down between the two monsters occurred. However after several tense seconds, Fire Golza keeled over, defeated and mortally wounded. However just as Rei was about to call Gomora back, Kate revealed herself to him and released another monster from her Battle Nizer: Gan-Q, who executed Fire Golza in cold blood for its failure in stopping Gomora.[The Trap in Belargo City]

Ultraman Ginga S[]

Fire Golza was one of the many spark dolls that was in the possession of Exceller and his followers.[3] Android One Zero MonsLived into the monster after Hiyori failed to dispose of Ultraman Ginga as Gomora, and she immediately targeted the weakened ultra instead. Ginga was quickly beaten to a pulp by the monster, and it seemed that he was doomed as both Gomora and Fire Golza began to advance onto him. However, Hiyori had a change of heart after Shepardon saved her from one of Ginga's attacks, and Gomora attacked Fire Golza instead. Despite this, Fire Golza was far more powerful than Gomora was, even with the assistance of Ginga and Shepardon, and after tearing off Gomora's tail and bludgeoning the monster with it, Fire Golza destroyed Gomora with his Empowered Ultrasonic Ray. As Hiyori was caught in the crossfire, she managed to return Sho's Victory Lancer to him (having stolen it from him earlier) in an act of redemption. Able to transform once more, Sho transformed into Ultraman Victory to face Fire Golza himself. After a short stand-off, Victory summoned his EX Red King Knuckle and destroyed Fire Golza with a single punch.[Forgotten Past]

Fire Golza's spark doll would later be used again, this time by Bolst the Alien Guts, who after splitting into two copies of himself as Gan-Q, had one of his copies MonsLive into Fire Golza to apprehend the weakened Shepardon, allowing the Gan-Q copy to resume siphoning the beast's powerful Victorium with its absorption ability. As the monsters fought, Hikaru and Captain Yoshiaki of UPG were working on a Magnewave Satellite to intercept Gan-Q, effectively cutting off its absorption of Shepardon's power. Once the Magnewave was set up, Yoshiaki fired it at Gan-Q, which successfully stopped the monster as planned. Enraged, Fire Golza tried attacking the team instead, only to be confronted by Ultraman Ginga and Ultraman Victory once more. With Ginga facing Fire Golza, the ultra and monster were evenly matched with one another. Despite Bolst using more of his own paralyzing powers to stop Ginga from helping Victory, the alien was weakened after Yoshiaki and Victory took out Gan-Q. This distraction caused Fire Golza to become frantic, and for Ginga to turn into his Ginga Storium form. Fire Golza was no match for the powered-up ultra and Ginga quickly destroyed Fire Golza with Zoffy's M87 Ray, reducing both the monster and Bolst back into spark dolls.

Despite the ultras' victory over the monster, the spark dolls were immediately beamed back to Exceller, who used Fire Golza and Gan-Q along with spark dolls of Melba, Reicubas, and Super C.O.V, MonsLiving all five of them with himself to form the abomination known as Five King.[Activate!
