Hoe (ホー, Hō) is a monster that first appeared in Ultraman 80.

History

Ultraman 80

A monster formed from the minus energy created by a young boy’s negative feelings. Hoe’s tears release sulfuric acid that melt the surroundings, and it can also spew flames from its mouth to attack.

The minus energy accumulated around Sakuragaoka and took on a physical form after inheriting the anger from the broken heart of Shinichi Nakao, one of Takeshi Yamato’s students. At first, Hoe just stood there crying and screaming, but as Shinichi’s anger intensified, Hoe became violent. Hoe destroyed the town while advancing towards the home of Midori, the girl who broke Shinichi’s heart.

Later, Takeshi convinced Shinichi to let go of his anger and Hoe’s will separated from the boy. Hoe even moved to attack Shinichi when he tried to protect Midori, but Ultraman 80 arrived to draw Hoe into combat. Hoe initially made easy work of 80 using fire attacks and spewing acid, but when the monster showed an opening, it was defeated by 80’s Succium Beam and Buckle Beam attacks.^{[Don't Cry, First Love Monster]}

Ultraman Orb

Hoe was created by the continuous fear and despair exhibited by Haruka, an esper girl with the ability to see the future through her dreams. After Haruka's dreams predicted the defeat of Ultraman Orb at the hands of Hoe, as well as her dreams' predictions often coming true, her despair continued to intensify until finally, the Minus Energy spawned from it allowed Ho to materialize in Wing Elephant Park, where the monster began attacking. Going off to prove to Haruka that fate can be changed (despite her warning him prior to the monster's appearance,) Gai transformed into Ultraman Orb Burnmite to battle Hoe himself. At first, Orb had difficulty due to Hoe using trickery to its advantage and he was eventually pinned to the ground by the monster. However once Haruka tried to stand up to her fears of the future, Ho's Minus Energy began to weaken, allowing Orb to fight through the monster's tricks and after a lengthy battle, he struck Ho with the Stobium Dynamite attack. Suddenly just as Hoe materialized behind Orb to ambush him (as Haruka's dream predicted) Orb leapt out of the way just in time, shocking Haruka that her dream was finally disproven. Finally with Ho powerless after using up all its Minus Energy, Orb switched to Spacium Zeperion and he finished off Hoe with the Sparion Beam, dispelling the Minus Energy Monster.^{[A Future Shrouded in Fog]}
