Kanata Asumi (アスミ カナタ, Asumi Kanata) is the main protagonist of Ultraman Decker. After the Sphere attack, his peaceful life is taken away and he is gifted Ultraman Decker's light.[1]
Personality[]
Working at his grandfather's rice cracker store, he is close to their neighbors and regular customers, and he leads a peaceful life. He is cheerful and a little goofy, but he is a kind-hearted young man who cares for others. He never ignores someone in need, and sometimes goes overboard throwing heart and soul into whatever task is before him. After the Sphere attack, his peaceful life is taken away and he is gifted Decker’s “light” when he stands before an enemy, ignoring all danger. Although uncertain what it means to become an Ultraman, he takes to it optimistically and tries to use his new-found power for others. To this end, he joins the newly-reformed expert team GUTS-Select, and with his fellow young team members they stand up against the threat of the Sphere.
History[]
Sphere Invasion[]
On one seemingly peaceful day, Kanata made deliveries of Asumiya's space rice crackers to the Sorafune Spacesport. He met Ichika Kirino, a training school student of TPU's Space Development Department, who was also watching the rocket ship headed for Mars, and offered her some their rice crackers. He mentioned that his parents also went to Mars, but only for vacation. An emergency distress from Mars' Red City played on the hologram that reported attacks from unknown beings. Five massive King Spheres then appeared above several cities across the world and sent down Sphere Soldiers to attack the surface. As Kanata evacuated from the spaceport he saw a woman trapped underneath rumble and tried to save her. Ichika and Soma Ryumon spotted him and realized what he was doing. Soma tells Kanata to get to the shelter, but he is not willing to ignore the woman in need. The King Sphere sent Spheresaurus to the surface and began to attack. After getting the woman out, they were targeted by the hostile Spheres. Kanata attempted to draw them away but ended up eaten by a sphere.
He woke up and found himself within Sphere. Not wanting to die, Kanata resoundingly shouted who he is. The view of space appeared to Kanata and giant's silhouette came into view. Kanata heard the giant's voice which called itself "Decker". Decker gave Kanata the Ultra D Flasher and Ultra Dimension Cards to transform into Ultraman. Kanata became Ultraman Decker and valiantly fought the Spheres and Spheresaurus. Although Spheresaurus was a tough opponent, Decker destroyed the monster with his Selgend Beam. The barrier appeared above him and Decker saw its near completion from space. Ultraman Decker flew into space to take out the King Sphere but was blocked by the barrier before he could. Decker fell back to Earth and Kanata revert back into human form. Ichika was relieved that he somehow survived while Soma grilled him recklessly going above the call of duty. Murahoshi introduced himself to Kanata and told Kanata to contact him if he had the will to protect what was important. Later that day Kanata's grandfather Daishiro told him to do what he believed was right, which led him to join TPU's Special Training Division along with Ichika and Soma.[Day of the Attack]
