Lidorias (リドリアス, Ridoriasu) is a monster that first appeared in Ultraman Cosmos. A friendly monster native to Earth, Lidorias was among the first creatures on Earth to fall victim to the corrupting influence of the Chaos Organism, becoming Chaos Lidorias (カオスリドリアス, Kaosu Ridoriasu) after being infected. After being saved by Ultraman Cosmos, Lidorias reappeared as an ally to aid him multiple times and is known widely as a kind creature wherever its species appears.[1]

History[]

Ultraman Cosmos[]

Lidorias was a bird-like monster that lived in the Kaiju Conservation Center on the Kaburaya Islands. Lidoras was a friendly and gentle monster who had formed a bond with Musashi Haruno, who would often visit and appease the monster by spinning around his Pyroxene stone (which made a sound like Lidorias loves). One day however, Kaburaya Island was infiltrated by the newly arrived Chaos Header, who immediately took to infecting the monster and making it more savage. Lidoras became aggressive and in his madness, he broke through the Center's barrier, making his way to Area J-1. Upon arriving, Chaos Header took full control of Lidoras's body, mutating him into Chaos Lidorias (カオスリドリアス, Kaosu Ridoriasu). As Chaos Lidorias began its rampage, EYES was prepared to put down the uncontrollable monster when Musashi (having followed after his friend) confronted Chaos Lidorias and tried pacifying him by spinning around his Pyroxene stone. Reminded of the sound it made, Chaos Lidorias managed to resist Chaos Header's influence and managed to revert back to his old self.

Musashi tried to lure the monster back to the Kaburaya Islands when suddenly, Lidorias was attacked by the arriving JSDF, who fired at him with their missiles. Injured and provoked, Lidorias lost control of himself and immediately mutated back into Chaos Lidorias to fend off his attackers. As he tried to attack with his heat ray, Musashi intercepted one of his blasts. As Musashi was falling out of the sky though, an orb of light flew down from space and overtook his ship. Musashi had been saved by an old friend he remembered from long ago: Ultraman Cosmos. Impressed by Musashi's courage and desire to be a hero, Cosmos granted him the use of his body and power, and the ultra appeared on Earth once more. Confronting Chaos Lidorias once more, Cosmos managed to outmaneuver and divert the monster's assaults with ease, and after stunning the monster by redirecting his heat ray at him, the ultra managed to purify Chaos Lidorias with his Full Moon Rect, expelling Chaos Header's body from Lidorias and turning the monster back to normal. Pacified and free once more, Lidorias returned to the Kaburaya Islands.[Reunion with Light]

Lidorias would continue to live peacefully at the Kaiju Conservation Center with many of Earth's monsters.[Present from the Sky] [The Nightmare Experiment] [Final Test] However on rare occasions, Lidorias would escape from the Kaburaya Islands whenever he sensed when Musashi was in danger. When Musashi first joined EYES, and when the team were struggling against the monster Golmede, Lidorias came to Musashi's rescue when Golmede was about to crush his jet. The two monsters fought fiercely, but Lidorias's wing was injured (having damaged it while escaping from the Center's barrier), which allowed Golmede to quickly overpower and beat down the more peaceful monster until it couldn't fight back, even with EYES attempting to fight back and protect Lidorias. Eventually, Musashi would transform into Ultraman Cosmos once more to deal with Golmede himself, while Lidorias eventually returned to the Kaburaya Islands once more.[The Shadow of Chaos Header]

Later when Ultraman Cosmos was defeated in battle by Chaos Header Mebut, Lidorias sensed that Musashi was in danger again, and after making a ruckus at the center to save its friend, the monster was released by Director Ikeyama.[The Courage to Dream] Lidorias came to Musashi's rescue when Mebut attempted to crush him and Ayano and the two monsters fought fiercely. Mebut tried to corrupt Lidorias into turning into Chaos Lidorias again with Chaos Header's influence, but after already being possessed by the life-form before, Lidorias had built up antibodies to resist it and thus was immune to Mebut's corruption. Despite this, Mebut resorted to its next option: Beating the peaceful monster to a pulp. Even with EYES's help, Lidorias was at the mercy of the malicious life-form, who tossed it around with little effort. At last, Musashi managed to merge with Cosmos once more, and after unveiling his new Eclipse Mode, it was Mebut who was now at the mercy of the ultra. Desperately, Mebut seized Lidorias and used the monster as a meat shield to protect itself against Cosmos, but the ultra would not back down, and Cosmos struck both monsters with his new Cosmium Beam. The beam phased harmlessly through Lidorias's body, eliminating the remnants of Chaos Header's influence inside it, but Chaos Header Mebut was not so lucky, and the life-form's insidious new form was obliterated. After which, Lidorias returned to the Kaburaya Islands once more.[Eclipse]

Lastly, during Chaos Header's final assault against Ultraman Cosmos, the life-form went on the attack by causing a planet-sized earthquake, disturbing many of Earth's monsters, including Lidorias.[The Greatest Invasion] Chaos Header would then shatter the barrier surrounding the Kaburaya Islands, hoping to distract Cosmos as much as it could so that it could take Treasure Base and Team EYES hostage.[Cry of the Earth (Ultraman Cosmos episode)] Many of the islands' monsters opted to stay put, but Lidoras (along with Bolgils and Mogrudon) sensed that Musashi was in trouble, and the three monsters escaped and dispersed to help in any way they could.[Showdown on the Moon] Sure enough, Lidorias was the first to confront Chaos Header in his true form: Chaos Darkness. Knowing that the life-form wasn't evil, only missing its compassion and understanding of positive emotions, Lidorias didn't engage the life-form in battle. Instead, it began emitting a cry that appeared to affect it. Chaos Darkness tried to silence Lidorias with his energy blasts, but despite the punishment it was receiving, Lidorias would not give up. Once Ultraman Cosmos showed up, and Musashi was able to merge with the ultra once more, he held off Chaos Darkness long enough for Lidorias to recover and be joined by Bolgils and Mogrudon in weakening the life-form with their cries. Once Chaos Darkness was purified and transformed into Chaos Header 0, the three monsters returned to the Kaburaya Islands once more.[True Hero]

Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice: The Final Battle[]

Once Musashi had achieved his dream of becoming an astronaut, Lidorias, Golmede, and Bolgils were selected to be the first monsters to join him in being relocated to Planet Juran. Before their journey could begin though, Musashi and Ultraman Cosmos were both sent to another dimension after being defeated by Ultraman Justice and the Gloker, who were intent on resetting Earth. Knowing that their invasion needed to be stopped, Lidorias, Golmede, and Bolgils escaped from the Kaburaya Islands once more and were joined by Donron in confronting the invading robots. With the help of Team EYES, Earth's monsters were able to destroy a pair of Gloker Pawns, but once the remaining Pawns merged into Gloker Rook, the battle was turned completely against the four monsters, who were all defeated by Gloker Rook's attacks. Luckily, the monsters' courage helped Julie see the errors of her ways, and Ultraman Justice faced the remaining Gloker himself.

After Justice (and a revived Cosmos) destroyed the robots and the Giga Endra, Lidorias, Golmede, and Bolgils returned to the Kaburaya Islands to await their transport, while Donron returned to his underground home. Musashi would then safely accompany the three monsters to their new home on Planet Juran as planned.

Ultraman Saga[]

Although not partaking in the events of Alien Bat's siege on Earth, Musashi mentions that Lidorias, and all of the Kaburaya Islands' monsters were all safely relocated to Planet Juran. Lidorias, and many more of its own kind, have grown in numbers and now co-exist peacefully with humans on their new home.

Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad[]

Lidorias and Ultraman Cosmos were both ambushed on Planet Juran by a group of Absolutians, who deemed the ultra a threat due to Cosmos's ability to fuse with other ultras. Cosmos fought off the invaders while Lidorias watched on for the majority of the battle. The monster would eventually be taken hostage by a small group of Absolutions to get Cosmos to drop his guard, but knowing of his monster friend's purification to his attacks, all the invaders' trick did was give Cosmos and Lidorias an opportunity to strike them with Cosmos's Cosmium Beam, which phased harmlessly through Lidorias's body like before and destroyed the Absolutions.
