Planet L77 (L77星, Erunanajūnana-sei) was a planet located in the precise position of the right eye of the constellation Leo (獅子座, Shishi-za). It was a world similar in size to Earth, but approximately 700,000 light-years away. From Earth's perspective, the Leo constellation is visible in the summer, whereas the M78 Nebula—the homeland of the Ultra Brothers—is located in Orion, which appears in the winter sky. This means that L77 and M78 are positioned almost on opposite sides of the night sky when viewed from Earth.
Overview[]

Leo constellation
This distant planet was the home of Ultraman Leo, his brother Astra, and Leo's pet monster, Ron. However, tragedy struck just a month before the events of Ultraman Leo when the brutal Alien Magma launched a devastating invasion. The once-thriving planet was utterly destroyed, reduced to nothing more than cosmic dust. Only Leo, Astra, and Ron managed to escape the catastrophe, making them the last known survivors of their homeworld.
Official Lore[]
For years, various children's magazines and unofficial sources speculated that Leo and Astra were actually princes of Planet L77. While this was never explicitly mentioned in any television series at the time, Tsuburaya Productions has since confirmed this as official lore. Leo's chest emblem is now recognized as a symbol of his royal lineage.
The inhabitants of Planet L77 bore a striking resemblance to the Red Tribe from the Land of Light, sharing similar features and immense size. It is believed that all L77ians were naturally giant beings. Leo also had a pet, Ron, who—according to early design notes—was approximately the size of an elephant.
A glimpse of Planet L77 before its destruction was shown in episode 10 of Leo, depicting a peaceful world. Episode 22 later provided brief scenes of its downfall at the hands of Alien Magma. It was during this attack that Leo and Astra were tragically separated, with Leo believing his younger brother had perished.
D60 Star[]
In Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad, it was revealed that Planet L77 had a "brother planet" called D60 Star of the Draco constellation. However, this planet also suffered the same grim fate—falling to an attack by the forces of Alien Magma.
This revelation sparked debates among fans, as many questioned whether the small force of Alien Magma and the Giras Brothers, seen in Leo, could have single-handedly annihilated two entire planets. This mystery was later addressed in Ultraman Regulos, which unveiled the existence of a massive Alien Magma Invasion Army. Planet L77 was not simply attacked by a rogue group but was instead targeted by an entire military force.
Following the destruction of L77, the invasion army proceeded to attack D60 Star. However, a fierce battle erupted between the Alien Magma forces and the Genjyu Warriors, led by Master Alude and Regulos. In the end, both sides were nearly wiped out, with the Alien Magma forces suffering heavy losses.
The Alien Magma who led the Giras Brothers was revealed to be part of this army, but whether he held a high-ranking position remains unknown.
Story 0[]
In Ultraman Story 0, the inhabitants of Planet L77 are depicted quite differently than in the main series. Instead of the usual giant forms, the people of L77 are shown to resemble humans closely, with their physical sizes similar to that of Earthlings. Leo himself shares an appearance akin to the character Ootori Gen, which makes sense as he is the same individual.
The architecture of L77 is medieval in style, though its technology seems advanced, as evidenced by the presence of laser cannons. However, only the royal family—and specifically, the male members—are capable of transforming into Ultra Warriors. This transformation occurs when they wear a special ring known as the "Eye of the Lion," allowing them to change into the mighty Ultra form.
This transformation ability is a result of a past incident in which a member of the royal family was exposed to the Deflator Beam, a special radiation that caused the Ultra beings to grow into their giant forms.
Despite the efforts of Leo and his brother Astra to fend off the invasion of the Alien Magma, the situation takes a tragic turn. The Alien Magma's commander, in a desperate act, manipulates magma to intensify the planet's tectonic activity, leading to catastrophic changes that cause Planet L77 to explode. As the explosion tore through the planet, the citizens tried to escape aboard large rockets, but they were caught in the blast. Astra and many others were lost, and Leo, devastated by the destruction of his home, embarked on a journey through the cosmos to search for his lost companions.
