Shepherdon (シェパードン, Shepādon) is a monster that first appeared in Ultraman Ginga S as a secondary character.[1] It's the guardian beast of the Victorium Crystals.
- Subtitle: Underground Holy Beast (地底聖獣, Chitei Seijū)
History[]
Past[]

Shepherdon was the guardian beast of the Underground World and the protector of the Victorium Crystals. The monster was also one of the oldest living beings of the Underground World, outlasting the Kingdom's previous violent Earth-based generation that lived there and witnessing their banishment and subsequent takeover of its following more peaceful current generation. During its long life, Shepherdon befriended Sho and Hiyori when they were both children, and would also occasionally battle against the Underground's fellow guardian: Ultraman Victory, sometimes to quell its occasional rage, but also as a means of sparring.
Ultraman Ginga S[]
When Exceller began invading the Underground by sending Android One Zero to steal its crystals, Shepherdon became alerted to the attackers and rose to the surface to try and retrieve its stolen crystals. However because his presence was inadvertently causing destruction to a nearby mine, the monster was confronted by UPG, who blasted at it with their weapons. Despite the team's ineffective resistance, Shepherdon became distracted by Hikaru confusing it with UPG's vehicle, causing the mosnter to trip up. Unfortunately, this distraction allowed One-Zero to successfully retreat with the stolen crystal as planned. Before the monster could turn its ire onto UPG and Hikaru, Sho ordered it to return home, to which Shepherdon reluctantly obeyed.
Later once Android One Zero returned to steal more crystals, Shepherdon defied Sho's orders and returned to the surface to take matters into its own hands, destroyed an army of Chiburoids in the process. In retaliation, One Zero MonsLived into the monster EX Red King, and both monsters fought fiercely. Shepherdon tried its best, but his strength was no match for EX Red King's raw power, and was quickly taken out-of-commission after being struck by the monster's Flame Road attack. As EX Red King advanced to continue its assault, Sho transformed into Ultraman Victory, and he confronted the monster instead. With the ultra now taking care of the invader, Victory again ordered Shepherdon to return home, and the weakened monster obliged without question. [The Power to Open the Way]
Sometime later, Shepherdon noticed that Sho was struggling to understand where Hikaru's strength to defeat a MonsLived Sadolar (as Ultraman Ginga) came from. After noticing that he (as Ultraman Victory) was struggling to defeat a MonsLived Gudon in battle as (with One Zero once again trying to steal more crystals,) Shepherdon came to the surface to help its friend by facing Gudon instead. As the two monsters battled, Shepherdon was soon overwhelmed by Gudon's attacks after being whipped repeatedly over-and-over again, but thanks to Shepherdon's intervention, as well as help from UPG, Repi, and Hikaru (as Sadolar), Sho realized that Hikaru's strength came from his desire to protect others, allowing him to regain the power of his Ultlances and rescue Shepherdon, by destroying Gudon with a charged blast from his new King Joe Launcher. [The Meaning of Strength]
Shepherdon would later sense the presence of Hiyori, an old Victorian friend of the monster who had returned to exact her revenge on the Underground World by targeting Sho, after her clan was banished from Earth for their violent tendencies. After sensing her battle (as a MonsLived Gomora) against Ultraman Ginga, Shepherdon cried out to the Victorian, and the monster's roars tempered Gomora and Hiyori, causing them to retreat from the battle. Hiyori would later return to settle the score once more, but during its rematch with Ginga, Shepherdon came to the surface to save its friend by taking a direct-hit from Ginga's Storium Ray. Realizing that Shepherdon still remembered her and of their past after all those years, Hiyori saw the errors of her ways and Gomora joined forces with Shepherdon and Ginga to defeat a MonsLived Fire Golza (being controlled by One Zero). Having already sustained considerable damage from taking Ginga's attack, Shepherdon was overwhelmed by Fire Golza's immense strength and attacks. Luckily, Hiyori returned the Victory Lancer to Sho (after stealing it from him prior,) and Victory returned just in time to rescue Shepherdon and deliver the finishing-blow to Fire Golza. [The Forgotten Past]
During the skirmish with Hiyori, Exceller learned that the Victorium Crystal on Shepherdon's back possessed power that was ten times stronger than that of normal Victorium Crystals, and so the villainous alien shifted his focus onto the monster instead. Bolst MonsLived into Gan-Q, and had the life-form pull Shepherdon to the surface, where the alien used Gan-Q's power to siphon and transfer the excess energy within Shepherdon to Exceller's ship. As UPG hurried to prepare their newly-built Magnewave Satellite, Sho hurried off to save his friend and guardian. He managed to distract one of Bolst's Gan-Q clones, allowing Shepherdon to free itself, but the alien only retaliated by turning into Fire Golza to restrain the monster by force, and allow the other Gan-Q clone to continue siphoning Shepherdon's energy. Luckily, UPG finished setting up their satellite, and the Magnewave managed to intercept Gan-Q's feeding, freeing Shepherdon once more. Hikaru and Sho transformed into Ginga and Victory, and the two ultras managed to fend off the attacking alien. Despite Bolst having his monster clones utilize his additional Alien Guts abilities, UPG's assistance was enough to help the ultras in stopping the alien's ambush. Fire Golza and Gan-Q were destroyed and it seemed that Shepherdon was saved.
However, Bolst's dirty deed had been done, and Exceller had more than enough stolen energy to create and MonsLive into his strongest monster yet: Five King. Despite all three of them being severely weakened, Shepherdon, Ginga, and Victory stood up to Exceller and his fused monster, but after being blasted by a redirected combination of Ginga's Storium Ray and Victory's Victorium Shoot, Shepherdon was quickly taken down, with Ginga and Victory falling to Five King's incredible strength in short order as well. [Activate! Operation Magnewave] Despite this, Shepherdon was still alive, and with Exceller threatening to destroy Earth with Five King's power, the monster told Sho that its remaining Victorium energy can still be used to revive Ginga and Victory so that they can finish the fight instead. With UPG working together, the Magnewave was repurposed to draw out Shepherdon's energy and transfer it to Ginga and Victory's bodies, while Hikaru tried to hold off Exceller with the Spark Dolls of EX Red King, Eleking, and King Joe Custom. Eventually, the transference was complete and Ginga and Victory were revived and rejuvenated to face Exceller and Five King together. [Desperate Battle in the Sunrise]
Ginga and Victory were successful in defeating Exceller and destroying Five King, but it came at a great cost. As a result of the amount of energy that had been taken from it during the previous battle, Shepherdon was now dying. [A Life to Regain]
Sho urged the monster to stay in the Underground to preserve its strength, but Shepherdon was still able to use its healing abilities to treat Sho after he (as Victory) had been poisoned by Bolst's MonsLived Doragory. When the alien returned to continue his rampage as the Terrible-Monster (along with Velokron), they were confronted by Ginga, who was overwhelmed by their combined might. Sho hastily returned to the surface to help his comrade as Victory, but he was still weakened from the poison, and thus was targetted by Velokron. Despite its weakened state, Shepherdon knew that his friend needed help. Thus, it defied Sho's orders and returned to the surface to protect Victory one last time. Velokron continued to bombard the monster with its missiles until finally, Shepherdon keeled over and exploded. It seemed as though Shepherdon was finally dead, until Sho was presented with a Spark Doll of its monster friend. It was revealed that Shepherdon had taken on a new form: The Shepherdon Saber. With Ginga's help in restraining the Terrible-Monsters, Victory struck Velokron and Doragory with the Shepherdon Saber Flash attack, destroying them both with his new power. [The Holy Sword of the Future]
Victory would continue to use the Shepherdon Saber in battle against other opponents, including Muerte the Alien Akumania, [Gan-Q's Tears] as well as the revived Dark Lugiel as Vict Lugiel. [Adventure Called Life] [Battle for Tomorrow]
Ultra Fight Victory[]
Shepherdon remained as a Spark Doll under the possession of Sho. However, when he (as Victory Knight) was engaged in battle against Victory Killer, Yapool released Lunatyx to attack the imprisoned Ultraman Ginga. Before the Terrible-Monster could attack the ultra however, Sho noticed Shepherdon's Spark Doll glowing. Realizing what he could do now, Victory Knight played the Knight Timber and the monster was revived. With the odds evened, Shepherdon fought with Lunatyx, while Victory continued his fight with Victory Killer. Lunatyx was no match for Shepherdon's power, and Shepherdon destroyed the Terrible-Monster with his Victorium Flash attack. With Lunatyx (and Victory Killer) destroyed, Shepherdon used his Victorium to heal the injured Ginga and Ultraman Ace before returning back to Sho as a Spark Doll yet again, his task fulfilled.
Although he was not seen again in his monster form, the Shepherdon Saber was used by Victory Knight, along with the Knight Timber, to battle against the revived Space Emperor: Juda Specter. With a combination of both the Knight Timber and the Shepherdon Saber being used in battle, Victory Knight finally defeated the Space Emperor with the "Knight Victorium Breaker" attack.
