Shin Asuka (アスカ・シン, Asuka Shin) is the protagonist of Ultraman Dyna. He received the power of Ultraman Dyna when he encountered a light tunnel while stranded in space.
After managing to defeat Gransphere, Shin was sucked into its wormhole and sent into a gap between universes.

Asuka is a hot-headed and unorthodox young member of Super GUTS with tremendous skill and talent as a pilot.

Shin Asuka makes a brief appearance at the end of the movie as a TPC maintenance crew member, saluting Daigo Madoka and Rena Yanase as the two headed to live on the colony on Mars.

Super GUTS pursued Geranda that headed for Earth. Ultraman Dyna appeared on the Moon and fought the space monster. Although it was hit with the Solgent Beam, it managed to withstand the beam and surprise attacked Dyna with its wings, only to be destroyed by the Prometheus. They were called to the secret base on Kreomoes Island, where they are introduced to Professor Rui Kisaragi the head of the Prometheus's project. Super GUTS disapproved of the battleship and feared it was too powerful for humanity. Shin doubted the capabilities of the ship that Chief of Staff Kihachi and Professor Kisaragi touted and accepted to test it himself. Professor Kisaragi proclaimed to Shin that his powers would be taken as his memories of the battles he fought as Dyna were fed to the ship's main computer and fell unconscious. The base was attacked by the Alien Monera shortly after he woke up. Mai and Shin assisted from the ground, but Shin selfishly brushed off Mai to fight by himself. He transformed into Ultraman Dyna to face the flying saucer, but hijacked the Prometheus. They had Professor Kisaragi under their mind control and declared to the world that they shall destroy their protector with the weapon they've built. The battleship was transfigured into Deathfacer which Ultraman Dyna struggled to battle as it had data to predict his movement. To end it all it fired the Neo Maxima Cannon directly at the island and retreated. He discovered that Mai had been injured by the impact and felt remorse for his selfish action.
During the evacuation of Area K3, Shin met a boy named Susumu who had a vinyl figure of the Giant of Light that came before him. Shin Asuka became curious about Ultraman Tiga and investigated into him, wondering if he was also an ordinary human like Shin himself and how he was able to defeat so many strong opponents. He met Iruma and was inspired by the power of light that Tiga received from people to carry on fighting. Shin arrived at Area K3 where Deathfacer attacked, aiding his teammates from the ground. As the robot was about to fire its Death Scissor Ray at Ryo, Shin transformed in the nick of time to carry the machine and narrowly missed the stuck GUTS Eagle Alpha. Ultraman Dyna punched through its Neo Maxima Cannon and threw it to before it detonated. Believing the battle was over, Dyna prepared to fly away, but the Alien Monera captured him midair. They became Queen Monera and trapped Dyna into her abdomen and released deadly bolts of electricity that killed him.
Within a rift of light, Shin saw everyone still fighting despite Ultraman Dyna being killed. He witnessed the light of people that revived Tiga. Humanity once again became light and materialized in the form of Ultraman Tiga. Tiga rescued Dyna from Queen Monera's hold and they fought together to save the world. They destroyed the giant alien with the TD Special, the combined power of their beam attacks. With a victorious battle won, Tiga and Dyna faded into light that coalesced together, passing on humanity's light to Dyna before it vanished.[Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light]
