Notes[]

  • Unlike the Science Special Search Party (SSSP) from Ultraman (1966), which functioned as an independent investigative team, the Ultra Guard is depicted as a specialized division within a much larger military organization. This distinction allows for the inclusion of higher-ranking officials and numerous auxiliary personnel, adding depth to the world-building of Ultraseven.
  • The name "Ultra Guard" signifies their status as an elite force within the EDF and is not directly connected to the Ultra race of Ultraman and Ultraseven. Interestingly, the title "Ultraseven" is said to originate from the idea that Dan Moroboshi, the protagonist, is the "seventh member" of the Ultra Guard[2], reinforcing the strong bond between the hero and his human comrades.
  • During the broadcast of Ultraman, early plans for a follow-up series considered titles such as "Ultraman Junior" (ウルトラマンジュニア, Urutoraman Junia) and "Ultra Guard" (ウルトラ警備隊, Urutora Keibitai), emphasizing space exploration and advanced mechanics[2].
  • At the time of Ultraseven's original broadcast in 1967, there was no official English designation for the "Ultra Guard". However, later Ultraman productions, such as Ultraman Mebius (2006), referred to them in official documentation as "Ultra Guard" (ウルトラ ガード, Urutora Gādo). In English adaptations, the unit has also been translated as "Ultra Garrison" (ウルトラ ギャリソン, Urutora Gyarison), although "Ultra Guard" remains the more widely recognized term.
