Summary[]
Planet D60 is the birthplace of "Cosmo Beast Style", the legendary space martial arts which bonds its users with the guardians of the planet: the Cosmo Beasts. Under the guidance of the grandmaster, Master Alude, Cosmo Beast Style fighters train rigorously in mind and body to earn the right to wield the Cosmo Beasts' power. In addition, Planet L77 acts as an allied brother planet to D60, with its denizen being on good terms with one another.
One day, Ultraman Leo pays a visit and has a sparring match with one of it's guardians: Albeo. After swiftly defeating him, Leo is confronted and challenged by a new opponent, another ultra named Ultraman Regulos. Like with Albeo though, Regulos is also defeated, with Leo informing him that his skills are improving, but his mental fortitude is lacking. Before parting ways, Leo asks Regulos if his memories have returned at all, but is met with no progress. Sometime later, Regulos meets with Spica and Dias when the former is consorting with one of the Cosmo Beasts, and the latter is lurking in the shadows. It is revealed that Spica was the one who found Regulos when he first landed on D60, entombed in ice and having no memories of his past life except for his name. Recognizing his talent, Master Alude took Regulos under his wing and began to teach him the Cosmo Beast Style until the ultra could find out the truth about his past. Spica is still surprised by this choice of actions from Alude, in comparison to Dias (who only got accepted after pestering Alude and Phoros to teach him their ways.)
The next day while Regulos and Dias are training, Alude and Phoros inform them and the others that L77 has been destroyed by the Alien Magma, with no chance of survivors, leaving Regulos devastated. Shortly into his grieving however, D60 comes under attack themselves by the Alien Magma, lead by Yurub and Lava. The armada is quickly confronted by Phoros, Albeo, Pharood, Spica, and Dias, who manage to keep the aliens at bay until they are confronted by their admiral: Volcan. Volcan easily defeats Dias and Regulos thanks to the durability of his Armored Darkness-themed armor, but is unable to stand up to Alude himself, who destroys all but one of the Alien Magma's ships and is strong enough to damage Volcan through his armor. Unfortunately, the alien manages to poison Alude (thanks to a distraction by Lava) and the aliens are forced to retreat, while Alude is tended to by the other Cosmo Beast Fighters. Unbeknownst to Regulos and the others, the aliens have taken one ultra captive to be interrogated, but are forced to leave him to be dealt with by their reinforcements.
Sometime later, Regulos learns that although Alude will survive his poisoning, he can no longer use the power of Cosmo Beast style. Enraged, the ultra impulsively goes after the alien armada himself, only to collide head-first into a mountainside, knocking him unconscious. Upon awakening, Regulos finds himself in an ancient underground ruin, where he is attacked by a Guebasser. During their battle, the monster is frightened away by a Cosmo Beast Fighter that Regulos does not recognize. The fighter, named Tubahn, was once part of Master Alude's team of Cosmo Beast fighters until he was expelled by Phoros for letting his emotions dictate his actions. Impressed that Regulous was chosen by Alude himself to learn Cosmo Beast style, Tubahn agrees to train him his own style on the condition that he only comes at night so as to not alert the others. Many days pass and Regulos continues his training with both Phoros and the Fighters, and Tubahn in secrecy, quickly growing in skill and strength.
One day while training with Albeo however, Regulos accidentally reveals some of Tubahn's methods to the shock of Phoros and the others. While going off to train with Tubahn, Regulos is confronted by Phoros and Alude, who have learned about his secret training. Phoros is furious at Regulos for his actions, while Tubahn defends Regulos instead, leading to a fight between the two fighters. Alude on the other hand is amused by the situation, interpreting that both fighters see the potential within Regulos, while at the same time wanting neither of them to allow Regulos to train with the other, inadvertently revealing to a bewildered Regulos that they are both brothers. The next day while Regulos (and Dias) is being forced to levitate a gigantic boulder as punishment, he learns from Spica that a contributing factor to Phoros and Tubahn's fierce rivalry comes from each of them possessing Cosmo Beasts that are in contention with each other. With Phoros utilizing the Tiger style, and Tubahn utilizing the Dragon style (with Dias being interested in Alude's Buffalo style due to it being the physically strongest of the others).
Time passes and Regulos continues to grow more and more in skill and strength until he eventually completes Tubahn's personal training, with his only task left being to find a Cosmo Beast that will accept him. At the same time, Volcan's reinforcements arrive and the Alien Magma resume their invasion of D60. Now more prepared than before, Spica manages to hold off Yurub and Lava long enough for Regulos and the other Cosmo Beast Fighters to arrive, with Albeo and Pharood facing Volcan, and Regulos, Spica, and Dias facing Yurub and Lava. Spica is taken out by the aliens' ships, and Dias mysteriously disappears during the battle, leaving Regulos to be overpowered by the Alien Magma duo. However, he is saved by the duo of Phoros and Tubahn, who destroy the remaining fleet themselves. Yurub and Lava are overpowered by the brothers and are hindered by their squabbling, and ultimately are both destroyed by Phoros's Lightning White Tiger Kick and Tubahn's Flaming Red Dragon Kick.
Despite this victory however, Regulos, Spica, Phoros, and Tubahn are too late to save Albeo and Pharood, who are both murdered after being poisoned by Volcan. Phoros and Tubahn deal with the admiral alien while Regulos and Spica hurry off to rendezvous with Alude, only for the pair to find to their horror that their master has also been murdered, with a severely weakened Dias also on scene. Volcan's battle with Phoros and Tubahn spills into Alude's temple, and Regulos, furious at his friends' and master's death, impulsively attacks Volcan to avenge them. Unfortunately, his distraction allows the alien to strike Phoros and Tubahn with a deadly laser that was meant for Regulos, with the Cosmo Beast Fighters taking the attack instead. With their dying breaths, the fighters pass their energy onto Regulos, hoping that he can regain his focus and finish the fight.
Initially, a distraught Regulos is at the mercy of Volcan until he is saved in the nick of time by Phoros and Tubahn's Cosmo Beasts: The White Tiger and the Red Dragon. Awakening their latent power passed into him, Regulos sports emblems of the Cosmo Beasts on his shoulders and swiftly overpowers Volcan in battle. The alien desperately fights back by unleashing a Baraba that he procured from the Yapool, and the Terrible-Monster immediately bombards the ultra with a plethora of attacks. Just as it seems like Regulos is finished though, the Cosmo Beasts of Albeo and Pharood (The Crane and the Snake respectively) present themselves to the ultra as well. Further empowered, Regulos easily destroys Baraba. With no other alternative, Volcan maximizes his own strength by poisoning himself in a last-ditch effort to kill Regulos once and for all. In spite of this though, the alien is easily countered by Regulos, unable to land a single solid hit, and is finished when Regulos strikes him with the Shadowless Red Dragon & White Tiger Kick. Recognizing the fiery gaze Regulos has in his eyes, Volcan reveals that he knows where the ultra came from, and dies taunting Regulos that he will never know the truth of his past.
Meeting up with Spica, Regulos is greeted by the spirits of his fellow practitioners, who acknowledge him as the Grandmaster of the Cosmo Beast Fist. The two vow to rebuild from nothing, only to be confronted by an unharmed Dias, who kills Spica in cold blood with an energy blast. With her dying breath, Spica gives her Cosmo Panther, to a devastated Regulos. Dias then reveals that his true form is that of the absolutian: Absolute Diavolo. Diavolo continues to reveal that it was he who killed Alude in order to obtain his Cosmo Buffalo for himself. In order to do this, he conspired with the Alien Magmas' invasion of D60 so that he could carry out his sinister plan while the other Cosmo Beast Fighters were distracted. Enraged at this betrayal, Regulos prepares to attack his former friend, but an Absolute Destruction attack from an arriving Absolute Tartarus incapacitates him. Defeated, Regulos is seized and imprisoned in the Kingdom to be studied by the absolutians, where he vows to survive...
