Ultraman Trigger (ウルトラマントリガー, Urutoraman Torigā), is the main hero of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga. An ancient Giant of Light who once sealed away darkness thirty million years ago, Trigger is reborn after millennia on one fateful day when Kengo Manaka is led to a chance encounter with the sleeping Giant of Light.[1]
He was originally Trigger Dark (トリガーダーク, Torigā Dāku), the fourth Giant of Darkness. Trigger Dark was revived in modern times by the dark curse Carmeara casted on Ultraman Trigger of the present.

History[]
Ultra-Ancient Times[]

The original Trigger transforming using the Ancient Sparklence
Thirty million years ago, the world was engulfed in terrifying darkness. Trigger and the Giants of Darkness destroyed the Ultra-Ancient civilization and aimed to obtain the Eternity Core together. However, with the interference of Kengo Manaka, who had travelled from thirty million years in the future, Trigger would eventually be turned to the light, betraying his comrades and sealed them deep in space with the help of Yuzare. With his power spent, the Giant of Light fell to Mars, and slept in the red star, and was forgotten to time. The impact created an inverted pyramid ruin that contained the Circle Arms and his petrified body.
Present Day Revival[]

The statue of Trigger discovered by Kengo.
Thirty million years later, Trigger's will of light would be reborn as a human infant in the Mars ruins. The child, came to be known as Kengo Manaka, was discovered by Reina Manaka, who realized he was a miracle child, and was raised on the Mars colony.
Carmeara's seal would be broken upon collision with space debris, reviving the ancient darkness. Even before Kengo had inherited Ultraman Trigger's light, he had witnessed a prophetic dream and was visited by Yuzare who told him that he is light. The dream devolved into a nightmare where everything was engulfed by darkness, and a Giant of Darkness, that loomed over, fired a beam at him. Golba appeared near the Mars colony and headed toward the ruins, causing destruction along the way. As Kengo made his way to the ruins, a portal opened under him and Kengo was brought to the lowest level of the ruins where Trigger's statue laid rest. After an encounter with Carmeara, the light choose Kengo as its inheritor and Kengo transformed into Ultraman Trigger.[Connection of Light]
Kengo arrived on Earth with Chairman Shizuma, who recommended he keep his identity as Ultraman Trigger a secret to avoid unwanted dangers. Kengo was deployed to evacuate civilians during Gymaira's attack, and transformed in order to defeat the monster. After a seeming victory, Darrgon suddenly appeared on Earth and challenged Trigger, his "worthy opponent", to an honorable duel. Trigger was overpowered by Darrgon's brute force and vanished. Darrgon reemerged that same night and fired off fiery shockwaves with his Fire Beat Crusher and destroyed many buildings. Trigger flying-kicked Darrgon midair as he arrived to fight a second round. This time Trigger type changed to Power Type, with the new key Akito Hijiri gave to Kengo, to increase his strength and battled Darrgon.[Leap to the Future]
Trigger Dark's Revival[]
As the mysteries behind the Ultra-Ancient civilization began to unfold, Kengo bore witness to many more visions and memories from Ultra-Ancient times. With Yuna Shizuma slowly awakening the powers of her ancestor, the final portion of the stone tablet was unveiled and revealed the existence of the fourth Giant of Darkness, who turned out to be Trigger himself.
Carmeara casted a dark curse on Trigger, which led to Kengo being sent back through time. Kengo was able link himself to Trigger Dark from the past with the Ancient Sparklence as the Eternity Core's power was about to be obtained. Trigger's vessel in the present suddenly rose up from the ground and was transformed by the darkness into Trigger Dark, causing destruction as he reawakened.[The Encounter of Light and Darkness]
Power of Eternity[]
Trigger rejected Kengo's plea to lend him the power to protect and attacked him. They fought one another as Kengo attempted to convince him, but Kengo's wish to build a hopeful future was strong enough to overpower Trigger Dark. Trigger took Kengo's and got up, and finally showed his smile to Kengo. He took the form of Kengo and as he stood before the Eternity Core, transformed into Ultraman Trigger Multi Type. Three Ultraman Trigger exited the Eternity Core's gate and fought against his former companions. Power and Sky Type were defeated, but Yuzare called upon the Eternity Core and sacrificed herself to grant Ultraman Trigger power and seal the Giants of Darkness. Ultraman Trigger was veiled in a golden aura and threw them deep into space as he also became petrified.
Through the present day Trigger Dark, Kengo heard the calls of Akito and Yuna for him to return. He was sent through the portal again and returned to the present, separating from Ultraman Trigger as his statue fell to Mars. Kengo reunited with them in the present and transformed to fight Trigger Dark. Ultraman Trigger received the fragment of the Eternity Core from Yuzare, who reawakened from Yuna, which Kengo used to awaken as Glitter Trigger Eternity. He forced the three Giants of Darkness to retreated and defeated Trigger Dark, but the power was too energy intense for even him to control. Although Trigger Dark was destroyed his dark remnants entered into Ignis.[The 30-Million-Year Miracle]
Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z[]
Ultraman Decker[]
Years after Trigger defeated Megalothor and Evil Trigger, the Sphere attacks on both Earth and Mars. Kengo and GUTS-Select acted as Mars defense while the rest of Earth was blocked off from the rest of Space. A different Yuzare appeared in front of Kengo and gave him the Ultra Dual Sword along with four Ultra Dimension cards. Kengo was shown a vision of a reviving Megalothor and was told to return to Earth. Akito infused Kengo's Sphere Soldier card with the energy of a miniature Sphere, which would let Ultraman Trigger to mimic the Spheres' energy and cross the Sphere Barrier.
Kengo as Ultraman Trigger Sky Type rushed to Earth and breached the barrier at Point M2, where GUTS-Select had detected dark energy. His reentry to Earth caused distortions in the barrier that alerted Earth systems. Ultraman Trigger arrived in time to save Kanata Asumi/Ultraman Decker from Megalothor's tentacles. With the tentacles subdued, Kengo and Kanata met each other face to face. Kanata was shocked to learn that Ultraman Trigger was also a member of the original GUTS-Select.

Two Giants of Light fight together.
Sphere-Megalothor emerged in the city from the center of the tornado of darkness, having been regenerated with the Spheres' energy. Kengo and Kanata ran off to face the revived Evil God. They transformed into their Ultraman and fought Megalothor. Because of its immunity to normal melee attacks, they couldn't match its defensive power. Trigger and Decker assumed Power Type and Strong Type respectively and pushed back Megalothor. Kengo summoned the Ultra Dual Sword in battle, which was able to cut the monster with the Deracium Impulse. After using the Zeperion Break on Megalothor, Kengo began to see Carmeara within its body, who continued to scream his name. Trigger hesitated to attack, with Kengo unnerved by her return.[The Light of Hope from the Red Planet]

- The respective head fins of Ultraman Trigger Power Type and Sky Type are similar to those of the two Ultra-Ancient Giants that accompanied Tiga's stone statue.
- Trigger Dark becoming a separate entity from Ultraman Trigger is similar to instances in stage shows where Ultraman Tiga is pitted against Tiga Dark.
